MY EXPERIENCE AT IASP 2022Hi, space lovers, I'm Karla Sofía Padilla Rodríguez, I'm 20 years old, and I'm studying industrial engineering at the Technological Institute of Saltillo, last November 2022 I was one of the participants of the AEXA Aerospace program, it was a unique experience, which marked me positively for my whole life. But being accepted was the motivation to continue with my career and fulfill my biggest dream of knowing and being part of an aerospace program. The pandemic affected me a lot since I was in the middle of my career and the fact of being locked up 4 semesters in a row made me almost give up, I wanted a break, since I was frustrated having only my classes on my computer and not being able to appreciate my career as it should be, I know that this did not only happen to me, Many were affected by this event. A few months before being accepted into the program, I was on my computer looking for space programs, both NASA and other companies, I found AEXA Aerospace and I started reading the call, personally, I did not feel able to apply, since I felt that that was not going to be my place, but I remembered when I was little I saw videos of how black holes emerged, of how space worked, so I set out to apply to make my inner child happy, to that girl who read books about space and loved to talk about that topic always, I did it for that curious girl who was struck by how time worked in space, already having applied and having done the interview, I felt that I was achieving something that I was never going to be able to do, since I was about to leave school, but I got the news that if I had been accepted into the program, it was a long journey last year, it was to attend school with the heaviest semesters of the career and do everything possible to get to the program, But it's an experience I wouldn't trade for anything in the world. I got this opportunity at the best time of my life, it helped me to continue with my career and right now I am a month away from starting my internship and finishing university. It was a challenge to be away from home, to travel alone, to be in a new culture, and what cost me the most was to be the only one of my work team with a different university career, all my classmates had my dream careers, and I did not have the knowledge that was needed, but that did not stop me, I had to read a lot, learn things to scratch and more than anything not give up. It was an experience that totally took me out of my comfort zone, and it is something that, if it had not happened to me, I would not be where I am right now. Aexa gave me the ability to be myself, learn from my peers, see pieces of space, learn to be an astronaut, and I appreciate these programs because it happens very often that you leave your dreams when you grow up, I left it for years, but this program gave me the opportunity to fulfill my dream of being an astronaut and a researcher again.
